Thinly Veiled

Jack and Dorian have been best friends for years, but Jack has secretly been in love with Dorian the entire time. With Dorian moving out of the country, the two spend their last weekend together staying in an old SoHo dance studio. Both fun and bittersweet, Thinly Veiled is an exploration of the fine line between friendship and love. The nearly bare location was designed into the film's sublet bedroom that welcomed many travelers and residents. Along the way, the location becomes decorated with memories of other residents and their left behind books, postcards, keys, clothes, and small token. The dance studio location is an original dance studio embellished with a upright piano, clock, screens, and the thinly veiled blue fabric.
The quck rendering helped communicate elements from reseach that could work within the location.
A 3D rendering was created to assist with furniture placement, blocking, and camera angles.
Dance studio.
The dance studio already had beautiful windows and hardword floors. The curtain, props, piano and dressings were added.
Set still. Residents leave behind items that decorate the walls with a nostalgic feel. Set dressing and furniture were added.
The book, lights, and set dressing were designed and added to contribute to the leftbehind cluttered abandonment.
