Writer: Alexis Camins and Rashaad Ernesto Green Venue: Paul Walker Theater, NYU "To The Colored American Soldier" is a play that follows an African American soldier in and out of the trenches and tents of war.
The setting was a universal tent of entrances and exits. Throughout the audience, mosquito nets and tents covered their seats.
Universal prop elements were used as prop/shipping structures.
Three different guns were chosen to represent the transition of time.
The design and deliberate hanging of fabric was effective in creating interiors and exteriors.
The floor was painted a speckle layer of grey and sandy pebbles for texture.
Originally the designed considered camouflage net instead of khaki fabric.
A more abstract approach was also taken in the original design, but we moved towards a more grounded environment.
