4x4xRichard is a musical performed at the Abe Burrows Theater, NYU. The set design was a fast pace musical that featured two dueling pianos on stage that rotated on a moving platform, fabric panels for silhouettes of exits and entrances, and four caricatures custom created and drawn depicting different emotional points within a relationship of the couples.
Groundplan
1/4" model created to show the set design.
In an original version, the backdrop was a twinkle light fabric and the caricatures were movable light boxes.
Large amount of space was needed for the musical dance numbers.
The pianos were on a rotating movable platform that would light-up.
Minimal props were used but all were in the color and palette of 1920's.
The fabric provided opportunities for the lights to create different patterns.
